About R.A.C.F.

At Ritsumeikan Academy, aiming to produce “innovative and emerging talent,” the Academy has formulated the Ritsumeikan Academy Competency Framework (R.A.C.F.) so that students at every level of education can identify their “own value”.

On this site, along with the eight Competencies, we introduce diverse growth scenarios through interactions with friends, family, and students themselves.
We hope this will provide you with an opportunity to reflect on your past experiences, consider the Competencies you have developed through them, and thereby build a richer life.

Episode

We introduce the competencies developed at Ritsumeikan Academy, along with episodes.

This was my first time ever studying economics and at the start i found it challenging but slowly i started learning it. Also it was not easy to adopt to life in japan at the start because of issues like language but so far it has not stopped me from getting used to life in japan. Finding study and home life balance especially in a foreign country made me realise this strength that i have aquired.

    Multitasking

Master's studies require many initiatives from yourself in finding information about campus activities, activities outside the study, research materials, and initiatives to always improve research.

    Initiative

By investigation, realized many other extra technical standpoints that had reshaped the mindset or direction of research. Some of them do reflects on the current selection of the new topic or research directions.

    Understanding

I have no background in Economics and it was quite new for me. I had to work extra hard to bridge the gap. I met my classfellows outside the classes, discussed their routines, study patterns, strengths and weaknesses. This way i was able to offer them help in my strong areas and vice versa. This practice not only develope team work in us but also we built a strong bond of mutual care and respect.

    Teamwork

When facing many challenges living in Japan, I realized I need to find new approaches to make matter more convenient.

    Innovation

So far I have attended lectures well and done research according to the advice of sensei. My research experienced an increase in progress and positive response during the research project seminar. Although I haven't received my grades yet but I'm grateful I got a good study.

    Resilience

My junior encountered a problem: he didn’t know how to use microcontrollers. It reminded me of when I was starting out—I also didn’t know much about them and had no one to ask for help. Back then, I spent a lot of time learning on my own. Now that I can help others, I explained the most basic concepts to him and introduced some learning materials and useful websites. This helped him quickly get a grasp of microcontrollers. He was very grateful, and I felt happy that I could help him.

    Empathy

I had to move from my country and start to live alone, that means that I had to change everything that I was used, I start to learn more about myself in a new environment. In my home I was used to spend time with my family and pets indoors, now, that they aren't here, I have to motivate myself to go out and give myself quality time, eating healthy and have a good balance of my lifestyle. And sometimes, the routine get the worse of me, thinking living day by day just doing what I have to do, school, work, cooking, etc., but then I remember that I am fulfilling my dreams in one of my favorites country, so, should give me credit of the feeling of accomplishments.

    Self-efficacy

I am impressed with the phrase "Never give up" and that is also what I try do to everyday. Life is full of challenges, problems, uncertainty and unexpected events. There are a lot of times I think of giving up to not go no more on that painful road but then I always have this one belief to recall the reason why I want to do this or why this matters to me.

    Initiative

I have managed to juggle university life, while being research assistant for two professors in my university. I managed to submit all work by deadline and also continue many research work.

    Multitasking

I have had to adapt to the differences in the Japanese education system and just living in Japan in general. It was a really big culture shock for me.

    Innovation

Basically I thought I was a type of person who couldn't do anything competently and I was negative about myself. But my friends were like have confidence and try to believe in yourself more. So I started to think more positive and tried to believe in myself. Now, I feel much better and I feel like I have become much more confident in doing stuff and I believe I have also become much more competent person.

    Self-efficacy

My understanding skills going up because I start to study on the different language as well as meet a lot of new topics which should understand and analyze.

    Understanding

At the Robotic Research Lab, I developed teamwork skills by collaborating on projects, sharing tasks, and aligning goals. This experience taught me to work efficiently, respect diverse views, and achieve shared objectives.

    Teamwork

Looking back to myself at the start of the semester, I feel like I have more discipline and able to recover from failures better.

    Resilience

In my first semester at Ritsumeikan, a professor from Ritsumeikan University has helped me to realize the importance of putting myself in other shoes while doing research, especially one related to humanity and human right

    Empathy

When I was studying for my final exams, I set specific goals on what to study that day and how much. Every night I reflected on how I did, and set improved plans for the next day to study more efficiently.

    Initiative

I have always been scared to step out of my comfort zone, but words and advice has led me to gain confidence and to try new things.

    Innovation

Before coming to Rits, I have always been in a small school with only a few number of students. I was always with the same people, and have never really experienced change. However, right after coming to Rits, I have met a lot of new people with different backgrounds, experiences, and feelings. I learned that each person has their own background, so we shouldn't assume things, and we should be careful with how we interact with them.

    Empathy

During my studying abroad, I had much time to think about who am I. And it made me analyze myself.

    Self-efficacy

Since I am currently studying in the IB course, I get a lot of assignments, and oftentimes, it is difficult to balance out my studies with the other activities that I do outside of school. However, after experimenting with different studying methods, I began to be better at balancing out my work. I also learned to give up on some things to make time for the other things that I need to prioritize.

    Multitasking

Through classes I was able to deepen my understanding of things more this year.

    Understanding

As group work activities increased after entering high school, I was able to enhance my teamwork skills, and improve my collaborative skills with others.

    Teamwork

I have been in an all-English-speaking environment for only 3 years. However, many of my classmates have spoken English for almost their entire life. Because of this, when I first started the IB program at the Ritsumeikan Uji, I felt like I was failing every class. However, after getting used to this new environment, and getting the support from my teachers, I slowly began to build confidence in some of my classes.

    Resilience

Through experiencing different relationships with different people I have been able to understand myself better and the kind of person I want to be.

    Self-efficacy

I aquired multi-tasking from my club. Since we have our first ever tournament, club tends to get quite busy and I think I started to balance my schoolwork and that naturally as time went on.

    Multitasking

I though to do more as I had failed to meet a certain standard and I decided that I had worked better when I put my mind on a spesific goal.

    Initiative

Me and my team were working on a project until they broke apart. Then, I eased the tension and gave good reasons why that was dumb, and then we united hence I believe Im good at teamwork

    Teamwork

I wasnt doing well on a science project, then I thought about changing things up a bit, but that failed too. I kept on changing and innovating until I got the perfect one and I passed.

    Resilience

    When my parents scolded me

    Empathy

My greatest teacher told me to continue plugging away because’ it's great.
