The Ritsumeikan Academy “R2030 Academy Vision” and "Ritsumeikan Academy Competency Framework"

The Ritsumeikan Academy “R2030 Academy Vision” aims to produce “innovative and emerging talent”. This means individuals who enhance and reframe their individuality through learning and research and create innovation through synergy with others. For students to develop these kinds of competencies, they need to understand their own value, recognize the value of others, and consider how to contribute to society by combining their values with those of others.

With this context in mind, the Ritsumeikan Academy has formulated the Ritsumeikan Academy Competency Framework (R.A.C.F.) so that students at every level of education can identify their own value through repeated self-reflection and proactive learning.

This framework, composed of one Core Competency and eight Competencies, conceptualizes diverse forms of growth and supports visualizing learning trajectories across the Academy, and it is therefore expected to encourage students at every level of education to engage in self-reflection and proactive learning.

The Core Competency of “RITSUMEI: establish one’s destiny through cultivating one’s mind.” means to “continue learning to understand who you are.” The eight Competencies are as follows:

English Explanation
R Resilience Learn and recover from troubles and failures
I Initiative Take initiative by setting your own goals and working toward them independently
T Teamwork Cooperate with others to achieve a goal
S Self-efficacy Believe in your own abilities and have confidence that you can achieve your goals
U Understanding Think logically and understand things clearly
M Multitasking Manage multiple tasks effectively by organizing and prioritizing them
E Empathy Imagine how others feel and respect their perspective
I Innovation Create change with innovative thinking

We defined these eight Competencies based on the 273 perspectives related to human resources development found in the Founding Spirit, the Educational Philosophy, the Ritsumeikan Charter, the R2030 Academy Vision, the Student Growth Goals, and the educational objectives of each affiliated school. They also reflect broader societal trends, including the OECD Learning Framework 2030, METI’s Basic Skills for Working People 2006, and the current National Curriculum Standards.

In celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Academy’s founding, we have created this “snapshot” to help communicate the concept of the Ritsumeikan Academy Competency Framework. This visual expresses the growth trajectories of students at every level of education in the Ritsumeikan Academy. Along with the eight Competencies, this snapshot expresses the characteristics of the Ritsumeikan Academy and the diverse growth scenarios that take place through interactions with friends, family, and students themselves within the context of each school.

We invite you to take this opportunity to reflect on your past experiences and consider the Competencies you have developed as a result of those experiences. By doing so, you may come to understand your own value, recognize the value of others, and help yourself and others lead better lives by combining these values—ultimately contributing to society.
