  • What language is used in the classes in the ISSE course?

    All classes in the ISSE course are held in English.

  • What areas can I study in the ISSE course?

    ISSE course contains many project based learnings in the ICT field, such as network security, user interface, E-commerce, AI and so on. Please click the link below for more details:

  • Would ISSE be described more as a computer science course or engineering course based on the curriculum?

    Described more general, as “Information Science”. However, “Systems” means software engineering skills and general engineering skills are also needed, and many software engineering classes are taught.

  • What knowledge and skills should I have acquired in high school in order to study in the ISSE course?

    In the field of Information Science, which is taught in the ISSE course, knowledge of mathematics and the natural sciences is very important. Therefore, it is essential to have a solid background in mathematics and natural sciences in high school. It is even better if you also have experience in programming. It is also necessary to have sufficient English proficiency, mainly in reading and writing.

  • Can I take classes taught in Japanese?

    Although ISSE students do not take Japanese classes in regular classes, the College of Information Science and Engineering(CISE) currently offers Japanese classes for ISSE students. Since it is an extracurricular class, there are no credits, but students who wish can take it for free. However, the implementation schedule for AY2025 is currently undecided.

  • Can credits earned at other universities be transfered?

    Credits earned at other universities cannot be transfered. Therefore, all credits required for graduation must be earned by taking classes in the ISSE course.

Admission

  • When is the admission period for the ISSE course?

    Admission is only in spring (April). There is no fall (September) admission.

  • Do I need to submit an English score as an application document?

    Regardless of the entrance examination method, submission of an English score is mandatory. The types and scores of English scores that are accepted vary depending on the entrance examination method. For details, please check the entrance examination guidelines.

  • Can international students residing in Japan apply for the entrance examination?

    They can apply regardless of the entrance examination method.

Scholarship

  • What scholarships are available to international students?

    Ritsumeikan University has its own tuition reduction/exemption system as a scholarship for international students. There are also scholarships offered by institutions other than Ritsumeikan University, such as JASSO. For more information, please refer to the following web pages:

Student Life

  • Can international students participate in extracurricular activities?

    OIC has many extracurricular clubs and welcomes the participation of international students. Although daily communication is in Japanese, many ISSE students also participate in extracurricular activities to deepen interaction among students.
