■Date and Time
June 25th(Web)17:00~18:00
■Venue

■Summary
This presentation examines the environmental impact of video games,
highlighting the challenges of integrating green computing practices into
development workflows. It introduces the Game Performance and Energy Efficiency
Quadrant (GPEEQ)—a framework for evaluating the trade-offs between frame rate
and energy consumption, using two metrics: Power up and Frame up. Alongside
this framework, the presentation proposes a hardware-specific optimization
approach that applies evolutionary algorithms to reduce energy use by tailoring
ad-hoc sequences of LLVM code transformations. A case study on Doom Legacy,
running on a Raspberry Pi 4, demonstrates the approach’s potential, achieving
up to 26 times lower energy consumption than standard -O3 optimizations.
Together, these tools advocate for a shift toward sustainable game development
practices that balance performance with environmental impact.
