Overview of the Consortium
Our Vision
To promote the social implementation of biochar, the existence of a research promotion organization that integrates comprehensive knowledge from the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences is becoming increasingly important. Therefore, we have established the Japan Biochar Research Center at Ritsumeikan University. This international research center brings together experts from Japan and abroad while also developing human resources in related fields.
We are pleased to announce that, to advance the social implementation of biochar sequestration in Japan, we have established this consortium within the research center through collaboration among industry, government, academia, and the public. This consortium aims to create a platform and business ecosystem that leverages biochar sequestration technology to achieve carbon removal and contribute to carbon negative, thereby promoting regional revitalization and agricultural development. Simultaneously, through mutual collaboration within the consortium, we will identify and address research challenges. Companies and organizations eligible for consortium membership and joint research include those engaged in carbon removal through their own operations, those involved in carbon offset activities, biochar providers, as well as universities, government agencies, and municipalities promoting regional and agricultural development through carbon negative initiatives. By recruiting a diverse and wide range of participants, we aim to contribute to society through efforts such as preventing global warming, promoting regional revitalization, and advancing agriculture.
