ABOUT

What is the Japan
Biochar Consortium?

At Ritsumeikan University, efforts have long been made to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as part of measures against global warming. Among these efforts, the university has focused on carbon sequestration (carbon removal) through biochar. The Japan Biochar Research Center was established in November 2022 to promote the research and dissemination of this technology. Furthermore, to promote the social implementation of biochar through the participation of industry, government, academia, and the public, we established the Japan Biochar Consortium under the Japan Biochar Research Center in December 2022. This consortium brings together private companies, local governments, and researchers as members, each collaborating to research, promote, and implement biochar in society towards achieving a decarbonized society.
