As a double major in accounting and Japanese language studies, I knew that I wanted the opportunity to study abroad. However, because of the strict nature of my accounting program it was a very difficult decision to make. My Japanese professor highly recommended this program because of its rigorous academic nature. The Intensive Japanese Language Track offers Japanese courses in business career, writing, reading, etc., that are not offered at my home university as well as the chance to study other subjects in a regular Japanese course alongside Japanese students (for those in a higher level). In addition to the wonderful academic nature of the program, the SKP staff at the Ritsumeikan as well as the SKP buddies were very great resources in helping acclimate to the university and connecting exchange students with Japanese students. Despite the obstacles brought on by the pandemic in the second half of my program, I was able to fully take advantage of the beautiful natural landscapes of Kyoto as well. From the beautiful red autumn leaves to the cherry blossoms, I was able to fully experience the scenery of all four seasons in Kyoto. I also had the honor of giving a short speech as a student representative during our completion ceremony at the end of the program. During my speech, I was able to reflect on my experience at Ritsumeikan University and the many unforgettable memories I was able to make throughout my stay. This program is a great opportunity for students who want to challenge themselves in an intense Japanese language track at a prestigious university. I highly recommend this program for those who are thinking of studying in Kyoto.
