【High School Soccer】A Hard-Fought Journey to the Final Four — Fighting Tenaciously Through the Kyoto Inter-High School Championship Qualifiers
The semifinal match of the Kyoto Prefectural Qualifiers for the 2026 National High School Comprehensive Athletic Meet (Inter-High School Championships) Soccer Tournament was held at Taiyo-ga-Oka, Kyoto Prefectural Yamashiro Sports Park. Our school’s soccer team faced Kyoto Kyoei Gakuen High School. After the match remained tied 1–1 and went to a penalty shootout, the team was unfortunately defeated on penalties and fell just short of advancing to the final. Nevertheless, our team achieved an impressive Top 4 finish in the tournament.
In the first half, the team collectively withstood relentless attacks from Kyoto Kyoei High School, defending courageously and heading into halftime with the score level at 0–0. Although they conceded the opening goal midway through the second half, the players never gave up and continued to push forward in search of an equalizer.
Even as their opponents strengthened their defense, the team continued to attack boldly. Their persistence paid off when they scored a dramatic equalizing goal just moments before the final whistle. The crowd erupted in cheers, and the match proceeded to a penalty shootout with the score tied at 1–1. The players fought tenaciously until the very end, but ultimately suffered a heartbreaking 6–7 defeat in the shootout, narrowly missing a place in the final.
Throughout the tournament, the team delivered a series of thrilling performances. In the fourth round, they defeated the powerhouse Kyoto Tachibana High School in a penalty shootout, and in the quarterfinals, they secured victory over Fukuchiyama Seibi High School with a decisive goal scored just before full time. In the semifinal as well, the team demonstrated remarkable resilience by coming from behind to level the score after conceding first, showcasing their mental growth and determination.
Many friends and parents came to the venue to support the team and cheer on the players. Their unwavering effort and determination until the final whistle inspired everyone in attendance. We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your warm support and encouragement. We sincerely appreciate your continued support of our soccer team.
