Education History /
Work Experience

I hold a Ph.D. in Economics, with my doctoral dissertation examining inequality of opportunity in Pakistan within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). I have worked as a Development Economist at the Graduate School of Social Sciences, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), where I was engaged in policy oriented and empirical research in development economics. My research has primarily focused on South Asia and other developing economies, with particular emphasis on inequality, institutional development, and inclusive growth.
I have extensive teaching experience in Economics at one of Pakistan’s leading universities, the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad. I have taught Economics to students majoring in Economics and have delivered a range of theoretical and quantitative courses at the undergraduate level, in addition to teaching at the master’s level.

Specialization / Research Interests

My research adopts a multidisciplinary approach to rural and development economics, integrating perspectives from economics, demography, and social policy to examine economic and demographic challenges in South and East Asia, particularly Pakistan and China, with comparative insights from Japan. I have supervised research projects on rural population dynamics, migration, and labor market transitions in the context of the digital economy. My recent publications address issues of violence, climate change, energy sustainability, and well-being, contributing to a broader understanding of inclusive and sustainable rural development.

Message to Students

The 21st-century global economy is shaped by profound challenges, including rising uneven economic development, unemployment, environmental degradation, and growing concerns about political stability across the globe. We are living in increasingly uncertain times, marked by rapid technological change and the expanding influence of artificial intelligence on economies, labor markets, and societies.
At GLA, understanding the fundamentals of economics will equip you with essential analytical tools to understand how markets function, how governments design policies, and how individuals and firms respond to incentives. This foundation enables you to critically evaluate global economic and social challenges, reflect on your own societies, and make informed, evidence-based decisions. You will be encouraged to think beyond borders, act responsibly, and contribute to a more inclusive and sustainable future.
