Work Experience

I am a researcher and educator in marketing and business management, with research interests in consumer culture, identity, and consumer-brand relationships, including brand love and loyalty. I hold a PhD in Marketing from the University of Melbourne and has over 20 years of experience across higher education and industry in Australia, Japan, and other international contexts.
Prior to joining Ritsumeikan University, I worked at the Graduate School of Economics in Kyoto University and held a long-term appointment at the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing at the RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) University, where I served as a Program Manager for the Bachelor of Business (Marketing) program and was extensively involved in curriculum development and academic governance. My work bridges theory and practice, and I am committed to student-centered education and cross-cultural learning within an international academic environment.

Specialization / Research Interests

My specializes in consumer research, with a particular focus on consumer culture, identity, and consumer-brand relationships, including brand love, loyalty, and brand/fan communities. I have expertise in qualitative research methods and employs interpretive and exploratory approaches to examine how meaning, attachment, and value are formed through interactions among consumers, brands, and social and cultural contexts. My current research has expanded to include luxury consumption and branding, tourism and destination experiences, as well as women’s leadership and entrepreneurship.
