Work Experience

I received my PhD in History from the University of Osaka in 2025. My doctoral dissertation was titled “Gradual Reform in the British Empire at the Turn of the Nineteenth Century: the Abolition of the Slave Trade as a Case Study.” I was a visiting research student at the University of Edinburgh in 2022. After completing my PhD, I worked as an Assistant Research Staff member at the Graduate School of Humanities at the University of Osaka and served as a part-time lecturer at Ritsumeikan University and Kobe City University of Foreign Studies.

Specialization / Research Interests

My research focuses on the political and social history of the British Empire in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, particularly the abolition of the slave trade and debates over imperial reform. I am especially interested in conservative reactions to reform movements and the resistance they generated within parliamentary politics. By examining how opposition to change was organised and justified, I seek to understand the dynamics between reform and resistance and their broader impact on modern societies.

Message to Students

Studying history does not simply mean memorising past events; it helps you develop the ability to understand complex societies from a long-term perspective while remaining aware of diverse viewpoints. At GLA and beyond, you will encounter people from various backgrounds and learn to communicate across differences. In my classes, we explore the early modern and modern periods—especially the Atlantic world, while also considering other regions—to examine both similarities to and differences from the world we live in today. I hope to study with you and reflect together on our world in this time of uncertainty and conflict.
