Message to Students

As an educator and researcher, I wish to contribute to a society where people—regardless of their linguistic or cultural backgrounds—are respected, their voices are heard, and their strengths are valued and utilized. I believe that when everyone in a community feels comfortable and their abilities are recognized, new ideas and values emerge, making meaningful and positive change possible. I hope your time at GLA will be a fruitful learning experience where you discover your own strengths, recognize and appreciate those of others, and collaborate to shape new ideas that contribute to a better world. I look forward to seeing how you grow, explore new possibilities, and become a person who can make a difference in your own unique way in the globalized world. I would be more than happy to support you along the way!

Courses Taught

  • Introduction to Research Methods in Social Sciences
  • Special Lecture (Social Sciences) [Introduction to Applied Linguistics]
  • Special Lecture (Social Sciences) [Multilingualism, Identity, and Globalization]

I teach courses in applied linguistics and research methods. Language is a big part of how we understand ourselves, connect with others, and make sense of the world. In applied linguistics, we examine how language is used in society and how it is learned and taught. In my courses, we explore how languages are used and perceived across different contexts, shaping our identities and perspectives on language, culture, and society. Through this, students not only develop an understanding of linguistic and social dynamics but also gain deeper insights into themselves and the world around them.

Research Interests

Internationalization of Higher Education, Translanguaging, Globalization of English, and Academic Discourse Socialization

My research explores the challenges and dynamics of linguistic and cultural diversity, primarily in educational contexts. I have examined these topics in CLIL, EMI, and study abroad programs within the context of the internationalization of higher education. More recently, I have expanded my focus to global mobility, including working holidays and employment in global companies. My latest project investigates how media and ideology influence individuals’ decisions on global mobility, particularly to non-English-speaking countries like Korea and Japan.
