The 16th Biennial International Conference on Industrial Logistics (ICIL 2025) took place at Ritsumeikan University’s Tokyo Campus from October 30 to November 2, 2025. Co-organized by the International Centre for Innovation and Industrial Logistics (ICIIL) and the Research Organization of Open Innovation and Collaboration at Ritsumeikan University, the meeting brought together participants from more than twenty countries to present and discuss current research in logistics and supply chain management.
The multidisciplinary program emphasized themes including Industry 5.0, data-driven decision making, smart and connected logistics, circular economy models, and carbon-neutral operations. Highlights included a keynote lecture by Prof. Jayant Rajgopal (University of Pittsburgh) on “Logistics Models in Public Health” and a “Meet the Editor” session with Assoc. Prof. Steven Carnovale, Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management (Elsevier), who provided concrete guidance on publishing high-impact research.
The conference also featured a welcome reception at the Palace Hotel Tokyo, a gala dinner with a cultural performance at KKR Hotel Tokyo, and an award ceremony honoring Mario Hirz (Graz University of Technology), Liluxin Chai (The University of Tokyo), and Marco Bortolini (University of Bologna) for their papers and presentations at ICIL 2025.
The four-day conference, chaired by Prof. U. Aytun Ozturk of the College of Global Liberal Arts, and supported by a local organizing committee including Ritsumeikan University faculty Assoc. Prof. Gian Powell Marquez and Asst. Prof. Shady Salama, fostered active discussions, new connections, and focused research sessions. Selected high-quality papers from the meeting will appear in Springer’s Lecture Notes in Operations Research.
