Our laboratory explores the biological functions of medicinal resources—including medicinal plants, crude drugs, and Kampo formulations—using molecular biological approaches. We seek to uncover previously unknown properties of these resources, as well as the mechanisms behind effects that have long been recognized through traditional use. We also develop the technical foundations that underpin quality at every stage—from cultivation and testing to evaluation—helping bridge the gap between research and practical application. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, we further aim to reveal new ways in which medicinal resources can be used. Ultimately, our goal is to unlock the full potential of these time-honored resources and carry their value forward to future generations.
