AY2026 Fall Ritsumeikan University Commencement Ceremony and Graduate School Degree Conferral Ceremony Held

On Wednesday, September 23, Ritsumeikan University held its fall commencement ceremony and graduate school degree conferral ceremony. In total, 594 students (undergraduate: 452; graduate: 142) graduated from the university.

In his congratulatory address, President Yoshio Nakatani sent off the graduating undergraduate and graduate students with an encouraging message: “The society you are about to step foot into is undergoing a major transformation. Dramatic political, economic, and social changes, together with the emergence of generative AI, confront us with fundamental questions: What distinguishes humans from AI? How can humans and AI coexist? And what constitutes human dignity? Precisely because we find ourselves in such uncertain and uneasy times, I hope that you will choose not to fear failure and continue to courageously try new things. It is you, and no one else, who will change the future. If you challenge your mind, I am certain you will be able to pave your own way to a brilliant future.”

Photo spots were set up around campus for graduating students to take commemorative photos, including a flower wall at the ceremony venue. The students shared their joy with their families, friends, and faculty members who have supported them during their time at Ritsumeikan, and everywhere on campus you could see their smiling faces.

Congratulations everyone on your graduation! We sincerely hope you will use what you learned and experienced at Ritsumeikan as a springboard to the future.
