Japanese Makeup Tips and Tutorials
On May 25, "TISA (Tutors for International Students Assembly) Makeup Event" was held at the Peer Learning Room in Hirai Kaichiro Memorial Library at Kinugasa Campus. With a lot of precious advice received and efforts devoted during the spring break, the event was finally put out in a form of the collaboration among “Hirai Kaichiro Memorial Library × Forcise (beauty parlor) × TISA.”
In order to help some foreign students from countries without a makeup culture to better gain makeup techniques, TISA has invited professional makeup artists and hair stylists from Forcise to teach foreign students the Japanese-style makeup. Additionally, TISA expects foreign students to gain not only knowledge and experience on traditional Japanese culture during their stay in Kyoto but also get in touch with the modern Japanese lifestyles such as the makeup culture.
At the beginning of the event, the makeup artists did a demonstration for the participants and then divided the participants into several groups. In each group, the participants put on makeup according to the advice by the artists. When they finished their makeup, the stylists set their hair. Although the participants seemed to be a little nervous at the beginning, as the event went on, they became more relaxed and appeared to truly enjoy the process of doing makeup. At that point, TISA members felt the “magic” of makeup which gave all the participants a brand-new look, further appealing and attractive with their smiles on.
Most participants were quite satisfied with this event which raised much attention among foreign students. In addition to the students of Ritsumeikan University, staff members from Hanshin Electric Railway also joined the event. The event has been a very good chance of raising the profile of TISA off campus. TISA will further design this kind of event which will truly help and attract foreign students. Don’t miss the next event!
