Summer is just around the corner and barbecue season starts here in Japan. To build relationships between Japanese and international students, Tutors for International Students Assembly (TISA) and International Education Center held a BBQ on Saturday, June 19 at C-Cube in Biwako-Kusatsu Campus (BKC).

This is an annual event to welcome new students who have recently joined Ritsumeikan University or graduate schools. On this occasion, new students interact with their senior students and faculty.

Enjoying barbeque

Despite the sprinkling of rain on that day, students from 14 countries including Japan and local residents (130 participants in total) enjoyed this event.
The participants were divided into mixed groups of local residents, Japanese and non-Japanese students. Each member began by introducing oneself and everyone enjoyed Barbeque plus Japanese specialty, Yakisoba (fried noodles).
In the afternoon, the participants played “Spaghetti and Marshmallow Tower,” which is a team game to build a tower as high as one can with spaghetti and marshmallows. Thanks to the game, which was one of the highest points of the day, the participants deepened their new friendships.
