OIC TISA Summer Festival

On July 29, 2016, the end of the spring semester, TISA (Tutors for International Students Assembly) and the Ritsumeikan University International Center held a Summer Festival on Osaka Ibaraki Campus to give Japanese and international students a chance to exchange language and experiences. This event focused on the aspects of a traditional Japanese summer, granting international students the opportunity to experience Nagashi-Sōmen (Japanese sōmen noodles flowing down real bamboo) and shaved ice. Thanks to the arrangements made by the Ibaraki City Satoyama Center, real bamboo from the nearby area was provided, so students were able to enjoy Nagashi-Sōmen in the traditional style! There was a total of 24 participants, including international students from all over the world.

All of the students were able to catch the tricky sōmen noodles with chopsticks! There was also a water gun challenge to win shaved ice, and cold, refreshing cucumbers were also provided creating the atmosphere of a Japanese summer.

Also, this event was the last chance for many of the half-year and one year international students to interact with Japanese students and experience a traditional part of Japan that is hard to come by. This event gave international students the ability to make unforgettable memories and friends before they return to their home countries.
TISA and the International Center will hold many more cultural exchange events to promote the global exchange of knowledge between Japanese and international students this coming fall semester.
