On June 28, 2023, the British university evaluation company Quacquarelli Symonds released the QS World University Rankings 2024, and Ritsumeikan University ranked 631-640, placing it fourth among Japan’s private universities and number one among private universities in western Japan.

Quacquarelli Symonds has published the QS World University Rankings since 2010, and this year it ranked the top 1,500 universities out of 2,963 eligible schools in 104 countries and regions. The rankings evaluate universities on a set of nine indicators including academic reputation, employer reputation, and citations per faculty member. Ritsumeikan University ranked 631-640 in the world, a significant improvement from last year's 701-750 and the third year in the row we have moved up in the rankings. With more universities applying for the rankings, competition is intensifying, but Ritsumeikan University successfully placed in the top 20 in Japan for the first time.

Looking at Ritsumeikan’s rankings by indicator, the highest spot earned was 108th in the world in employer reputation (10th in Japan), followed by 540th in international faculty ratio (8th in Japan) and 572nd in academic reputation (15th in Japan).
