The World Yo-Yo Contest 2023 was held at Osaka Conference Center from Thursday, August 17 to Sunday, August 20, and the head of the Madoi Yo-Yo Spinners circle Koyo Hashimoto (4th year, College of Social Sciences) won third place in the 4A Division.

This year marked the first time in four years that the contest was held, and the top yo-yo competitors from 27 countries and regions came to show off their skills.

Before heading to the World Contest, Hashimoto, a self-taught player who has been honing his yo-yo skills since the fifth grade, placed in two divisions in this year’s Japan National Yo-Yo Contest, taking second place in the 4A Division and fifth place in the 1A Division.

This year, I was able to take home the third place prize in the 4A Division. I am extremely pleased that I was able to put what I had practiced to the test on the big stage that is the World Contest. Thanks to the support of my family, friends, and many others, I was able to give my all. I will continue to practice hard as I aim to achieve better results and contribute to the advancement of yo-yo culture.
