On Thursday, November 2, Dr. Eva Ferreira García, the Rector of the University of the Basque Country visited Ritsumeikan's Suzaku Campus to hold a discussion with President Yoshio Nakatani. She was joined by Vice Rector of Basque, Culture, and Internationalization Juncal Gutierrez Mangado, Vice Rector of Research Inmaculada Arostegui Madariaga, and Office of the Rector Director Gorane Agirre Mandaluniz. Ritsumeikan University Dean of International Affairs Prof. Sachio Nakato was also in attendance.

Ritsumeikan and the University of the Basque Country concluded a student exchange agreement in 2018. Although exchange was suspended during the pandemic, to date, two students from the University of the Basque Country have come to Ritsumeikan to study, and Ritsumeikan has sent four students there on exchange. During the discussion, both parties reconfirmed the significance of study abroad experience, and they deepened their understanding of the existing exchange program, with representatives from both universities providing explanations about their respective geographical and cultural features. They also exchanged opinions on the possibility of online student and research exchange programs, and the heads of both universities expressed their expectations for the further expansion of collaboration.
