College of Science and Engineering Associate Professor Tomoko Hasegawa Selected for Highly Cited Researchers List for Fifth Year in a Row
Associate Professor Tomoko Hasegawa of the College of Science and Engineering was selected for the Highly Cited Researchers 2023 list. This marks the fifth year in a row that she has been selected.
The Highly Cited Researchers list, which is released annually by Web of Science owner Clarivate Analytics, recognizes “the world's most influential researchers of the past decade, demonstrated by the production of multiple highly-cited papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and year in the Web of Science.” For this year’s list, 6,849 researchers representing a variety of disciplines were selected. Associate Professor Hasegawa was selected for the Cross Field category, which evaluates researchers based on the total number of citations received for papers published in multiple fields.
Associate Professor Hasegawa conducts research related to global environmental issues, particularly climate change, using computer simulations called integrated assessment models that provide integrated analyses of energy, the economy, agriculture, land use, water use, and other factors. Specifically, she is working on forecasting future greenhouse gas emissions, examining measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and conducting an economic analysis of the effects of climate change.
This year, in recognition of her achievements in pointing out the possible negative impact of future reductions in greenhouse gas emissions on food consumption and the potential risk of hunger, as well as her global activities as a leading researcher in the field, she was awarded the Brilliant Female Researchers Award (Jun Ashida Award) by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
Comment from Associate Professor Hasegawa
