On Sunday, 22 December 2024, held an international exchange event, the ‘2024 Winter Party’ was held at for local community at the International Dormitory named BKC International House (hereafter ’I-House’) of Ritsumeikan University. Around 70 people, including locals, international students living in the I-House and Resident Mentors (hereafter ‘RM’), who helps international students in the I-House with living in Japan, enjoyed interacting with each other despite the language barrier.

Since its establishment in 2012, the I-House has been working with locals to clean up the community and social gatherings. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic made large-scale social events involving cooking had been ceased to be hold since its outbreak. This was the first time that such an event had been held since then.

The event started with quizzes by the international students to break the ice before enjoying a party with light refreshments, which the international students served up some dishes from their home countries. After that, participants made Christmas ornaments together.

‘I was satisfied to be able to eat food from various countries’ a local said and another said ‘I was inspired by the international students’ stories.’ This event created a great opportunity for cross-cultural exchange. ‘We’re glad that the local people enjoyed themselves. We'd like to continue holding exchange events like this‘ international students said.
