From Wednesday, July 5 to Friday, July 14, a study tour to Japan was held for students studying Japanese at Applied Technology High School (ATHS) in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This study tour, which started in 2011, is one of the Japanese language education programs jointly implemented by the Ritsumeikan Trust, Cosmo Energy Exploration & Production Co., Ltd., Abu Dhabi Oil Co., Ltd., and ATHS. Eighteen high school students from ATHS participated in this year’s study tour, which was held for the first time since 2019, and the program served to deepen exchange among students by having the guests join classes and experience club activities at Ritsumeikan Moriyama Junior and Senior High School. In addition to joining company tours and cultural experiences in Osaka and Kyoto, the students also participated in an exchange session with students from the College of Economics at Ritsumeikan University.
On Friday, July 14, a completion ceremony was held at Suzaku Campus. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Marwan Alnaqbi, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Japan, Mr. Omran Taryam, Director of the Japan Liaison Office of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, and Mr. Katsushi Nishi, President & Representative Director of Cosmo Energy Exploration & Production Co., Ltd. and Abu Dhabi Oil Co., Ltd. Faculty and staff members of the Ritsumeikan Trust and students from Ritsumeikan Moriyama High School were also in attendance, making for a grand event. One ATHS student who participated in the summer school program said they hope Moriyama students will visit Abu Dhabi next, while another student expressed their desire to study abroad in Japan in the future after returning home and continuing their Japanese language studies.
