Gaming Simulation Method

Associate Professor TOYODA Yusuke

Online Syllabus

This course, "Gaming Simulation Method," offers students the opportunity to both play and design gaming simulations. Through gaming simulations, whether analog or digital, students can immerse themselves in virtual worlds where they take on roles that they cannot or hardly experience in real life, such as managing a local community after a large-scale earthquake as a community leader. By engaging in these scenarios, students not only gain insights into how our societies and systems function but also learn to identify issues and propose solutions or challenges to real-world problems. Gaming simulations thus become powerful tools for comprehensively understanding society and formulating policies. Therefore, games not only provide recreational enjoyment but also serve educational purposes.

After participating in gaming simulations during the first half of the course, students design and test prototypes they themselves have created. This experience allows them to deepen their understanding of societal systems from the perspective of a gaming simulation designer. Previous prototypes have covered diverse topics ranging from university student life and local community issues to business management and political scenarios.
