Spatial Analysis

Professor INOGUCHI Munenari

Online Syllabus

Many objects in our society possess location information. That is to say, they physically exist in our world. At the same time, we generate vast amounts of digital data, such as photographs, through smartphones and other digital devices, and we can assign locations to these as well. This means that understanding “place” is indispensable for comprehending our society. Furthermore, to study policy science, data management and analysis based on such “place” is unavoidable.

In this course, students will convert census and various social survey data into geospatial information, then conduct spatial analysis using specialized GIS software to visualize social conditions. Students will then correctly interpret the analyzed and visualized results, discover new insights through appropriate consideration, and develop their own conclusions. Finally, students will master a methodology to support policy decisions by independently collecting data on themes of personal interest, converting it into spatial data, and conducting spatial analysis.
