Cross Border Policy Issues
Professor MIYAWAKI Noboru
Online Syllabus
This course, Cross Border Policy Issues, offers students the opportunity to investigate and critically evaluate a range of social, economic, and political policies across borders, including those in Japan and around the world. Using English as the medium of instruction, students explore why certain policies succeed or fail by analyzing concrete evidence, statistical data, and contextual factors. The course combines individual research and group work, and may also incorporate methods such as interactive gaming-simulations to deepen students’ engagement with real-world policy scenarios.
After participating in this course, students are expected to develop the ability to identify and frame their own research questions, gather and assess relevant information, and communicate their findings effectively. Emphasis is placed on improving discussion and presentation skills, with students encouraged to consider diverse viewpoints and express their own ideas clearly. Japanese students will reflect on domestic issues through global lenses, while international students will gain a deeper understanding of Japanese society, fostering mutual learning and broader perspectives on policy-making across borders.
