Jinwook Choi, together with professor Nakato Sachio, played a central role in the preparation committee to establish the Center for Peace and Cooperation in East Asia in 2018. He is an editor of Asia Insight for the Center’s homepage. He has taken research or teaching positions at Ritsumeikan University for several semesters since 2006.

Dr. Choi was the 14^th President of the Korea Institute for National Unification (KINU), from March 2014 to March 2017, which is a major ROK government think tank. He joined KINU as a research fellow in 1993 and has studied various research topics with regard to Korean unification, North Korea, and Northeast Asian security.

He has been active in providing policy advice for the ROK government as well as in academic research. He was the 13^th President of the Korea Association for North Korean Studies (KANKS) in 2013 and served as a member of various advisory committees within the ROK government, including the Presidency, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Unification.

He is the author of two books and more than 100 research papers (research monographs, book chapters, and journal articles), including “How to Stop North Korea's Nuclear Ambition, Journal of Contemporary East Asia Studies, Vol. 7, 2018, “China’s Security Dynamism and the Korean Unification” in Lowell Dittmer and Yu, Handbook on China, Routledge (2015), and pieces within the KINU’s Unifications Forum series, such as Korean Unification and a New East Maochun Order (2012), US-China Relations and Korean Unification (2011), and Korean Unification and the Neighboring Powers (2010).
Dr. Choi received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Cincinnati in 1992.
