Jokowi's Decade: How He Impacted Indonesia and the World
A Joint Australian National University-Ritsumeikan University Research Conference
Date: 23 November 2024 10:30-17:00
Venue: Conference Room, Hirai Kaichiro Memorial Library
Ritsumeikan University Kinugasa Campus
This year, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, popularly called Jokowi, finished his one decade in power. During his rule, he achieved levels of popularity and political influence that were unprecedented in post-authoritarian Indonesia. Admirers highlighted his focus on infrastructure building, while critics lamented his autocratic tendencies. In this conference, we discuss Jokowi's impact on Indonesia and the world. Drawing from the Australian National University's Indonesia Update conference earlier this year, the event brings some of Australia's leading Indonesia experts to Kyoto to discuss Jokowi's legacy with their counterparts from Ritsumeikan University and other experts from Japan.
