[ Core Project] Ceramics Experience at Uji Special Needs Education School

On November 28, Mitsuta Ikeda, Kotaro Kitamura, and Ryotaro Yoshimoto, third-year students in the IG course at the school, visited Kyoto Prefectural Uji Special Needs Education School as part of their "Core Inquiry III" class initiative, where they experienced the " Ceramics" class on manufacturing.

The students from Uji Special Needs Education School carefully explained the work procedures to the students, who happily engaged in the work while being praised for their "skill" and "good qualities.

The three students planned a collaborative project with Uji Special Needs Education School in "Core Inquiry III," and at the school's cultural festival (Kofu Festival) held on September 22, they opened a store called "Uji Partner Shop" with students from Uji Special Needs Education School and sold ceramics made by the students in their ceramic class, which were a big success.

(The "Uji Partner Shop" was named by the students with the meaning of a "store" that connects "Ritsumeikan Uji" and "Uji Special Needs Education School" through a "partnership").

Since then, exchanges between the two schools have continued, leading to this ceramic experience.

The next visit will be on December 12 to continue working on the rest of the project.

Thank you Uji Special Needs Education School for your cooperation.

Here are the comments of three students.

Kouta Ikeda

During this exchange, we had the opportunity to experience the ceramic work, and even though we were new to the process, we were taught in an easy-to-understand manner so that we could do it well and enjoy the experience. I felt that each process has its own particularity, and that this particularity leads to a good product. Thank you very much for today. We have interacted with the Uji Special Needs Education School at events such as the Kofu Festival, and at every event we have enjoyed the company of the Uji Special Needs Education School and deepened our friendship with them. I am really glad that we were able to interact with the Uji Special Needs Education School students through this project. I hope that this exchange will bring Ritsumeikan Uji High School and Uji Special Needs Education School closer together.

Kotaro Kitamura

We were able to have a serious ceramic experience while having fun in a cheerful manner. Thanks to the kind and careful instruction of the Uji Special Needs Education School students, we were able to successfully make plates. We are very grateful to Uji Special Needs Education School for the many interactions with us and the fun we had learning together. We hope they will continue this exchange with the next generation!

Ryotaro Yoshimoto

This ceramic experience made me realize once again that the plates and cups that we use everyday are available only because of someone's effort. The warmth of the people from Uji Special Needs Education School inspires me every time I meet them. I have spent a lot of valuable time with Uji Special Needs Education School students in this short period of time since the Kofu Festival. We will continue our exchange with Uji Special Needs Education School so that we can be a bridge between Uji Special Needs Education School and Ritsumeikan Uji!
