Study in Taiwan - Platinum Award in Asian Students Exchange Program

Three first-year high school students visited Taiwan as part of the school's Global Challenge Program to participate in the Asian Student Exchange Program (ASEP). They learned about Taiwan's history from before the Japanese occupation to after the war, and also experienced Taiwanese culture. All participating students stayed with the families of students in the ASEP program at National Chung Shan University-affiliated Kuo-Guang High School, our exchange school in Taiwan.
ASEP is a presentation competition in which students are paired with their peers to make proposals from the viewpoints of high school students in accordance with the competition theme. Two months prior to the visit, the students and their exchange schools worked together to conduct preliminary studies, decide on a presentation topic based on the theme of the competition, develop the content, practice their presentations, and prepare questions to be posed. The presentation topic chosen was "Ecotourism. We presented our ideas on how ecotourism can help rebuild marginalized communities and developing countries by promoting ecotourism. In preparing the presentation, we asked parents and students to cooperate with us in surveying their awareness of ecotourism. Thank you very much for your cooperation. Thanks to everyone's cooperation and their own efforts, they won the "Platinum Award," which is awarded to only the top four participating schools in the high school division. It must have been a difficult preparation period for those who stepped forward and took on the challenge, but I am sure it was an invaluable experience for them.

Through homestays and activities at partner schools, the students experienced Taiwanese homes and schools. We also visited an ecological farm for class lectures and made pizzas with herbs we harvested ourselves. They also visited Pier 2 in Kaohsiung City, a Taoist temple, Taipei 101, Jiufen, and the Shilin Night Market, where they felt the energy of Taiwan, a mixture of old and new.
