As of May 17, Ritsumeikan Uji’s 2023 IB graduates are accepting places at universities around the world. Compared to the global average IB score of 30.91 (on a 45-point scale), the 2023 graduating class attained an average score of 36.4. This remarkable achievement paved the way for acceptances into many of the highest ranked universities in Australia, Canada, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. Students selected majors including international relations, law, computer science, economics, medicine and biomedicine, criminology, engineering, dentistry and commerce.

         The IB students begin working on applications in June of their final year. With the help of our IB University Counseling team, they prepared their personal essays, letters of recommendation and interview techniques.

          Graduates who chose schools in Australia and Japan have already begun classes. This year, eight members of the graduating class chose to attend Australian universities. The majority entered Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight schools, including the University of Sydney, Melbourne University and Monash University. Students attending Japanese schools joined April entrance ceremonies at Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Asahi University, Hokkaido University, Keio University, Ritsumeikan University and Akita International University.

          Students who will attend university in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States are in the process of planning for their fall starts.Two of our graduates will attend University of Toronto, ranked first in Canada by Times Higher Education, joining alums from the graduating classes of 2020 and 2021. Three 2023 graduates plan to attend the University of British Columbia, ranked second. In the United States, students were accepted by highly competitive schools and will attend Georgetown, Harvard and American University. Our UK acceptances include Oxford University, Imperial College London, University College London, King's College, the University of Edinburgh and Royal Holloway of London. Our UK-bound students will join seven members of our 2022 IB graduating class already in England, ensuring support beyond borders.
