JH Panthers Win 11th Marine Bowl, Claiming Japan's Middle School American Football Championship

The Marine Bowl features club and school teams from both Kansai and Kanto regions. Teams that win their respective regional tournaments face off to determine the national champion. This year marked the 11th edition of the event, and Ritsumeikan Uji's victory was their second championship win, the first being in 2015, making it a nine-year gap between titles.

The game was played under light rain. Ritsumeikan Uji kicked off the match with a return and quickly executed a series of passing plays, scoring a touchdown in just two and a half minutes to take an early 7-0 lead. Their defense effectively stifled the Kosei Lotus offense, although a few offensive mistakes prevented further scoring in the first quarter. Late in the second quarter, the Panthers capitalized on a Kosei fumble, securing the ball in their opponent's territory and immediately scoring another touchdown with a pass, extending their lead to 13-0 as they headed into halftime.

The third quarter began with Kosei on the offensive. Although they attempted more passes, the pressure from Ritsumeikan Uji's defensive line led to an interception, which the Panthers returned for a touchdown, increasing their lead to 21-0. With time running short, Kosei relied heavily on passing plays. The Panthers' defense held firm, leading to advantageous field positions. The Panthers then executed a screen pass play, advancing close to the goal line and securing their fourth touchdown with an inside cut pass, making it 28-0.

In a final push, Kosei managed to score a touchdown, narrowing the score to 28-7. Attempting an onside kick, Kosei aimed for a quick recovery, but the Panthers gained control and launched an offensive from midfield. Despite some snap issues that led to a punt, Ritsumeikan Uji's defense intercepted another Kosei pass, effectively sealing the game as time expired.

At the awards ceremony, Ritsumeikan Uji's Seita Moriike was named the Best Back, Taiga Omasa received the Best Lineman award, and Sora Aoki was honored as the MVP.
