Junior High 1st graders Experience Their First “TOK Morality” Lesson
TOK-Inspired Moral Education Begins for 7th Graders
A new course called “TOK Morality” has begun for our 7th-grade students.
In these lessons, students are encouraged to explore open-ended questions that do not have one clear answer. The goal is to think through what might be the “best possible answer” for oneself at this point in time, and to deepen personal perspectives by engaging in dialogue with others, fostering multi-faceted thinking.
The theme of the very first class was:
“What is important in becoming part of a group?”
The lesson began by examining the difference between a “friend” and a “group member,” leading into the central question: “What is needed to truly become part of a group?” Students engaged in serious discussions and shared a wide range of thoughtful responses, such as:
“I think it’s important to work together with others over time, building mutual understanding and trust.”
“I want to approach people who seem hard to talk to, value both myself and others, and not blame people for mistakes—but rather, think together about how to succeed next time. I think that’s how real connections are built.”
At the end of the class, students were asked to reflect on the following message:
“To all the unique members of the 23rd cohort: What kind of ‘group member’ do you want to become?”
It was a powerful and meaningful start to their journey of thinking, connecting, and growing together.
