[WOW Program] Two Days Immersed in English: 44 First-Year Junior High Students Join English Camp!
On July 24 (Thu) and 25 (Fri), 44 first-year students from Ritsumeikan Uji Junior High School participated in a two-day “English Camp” held at Ritsumeikan University’s Biwako-Kusatsu Campus (BKC).
This camp was part of the school’s “WOW Program.” The WOW Program is an extracurricular exploratory initiative that anyone can freely join, with the goal of encountering new knowledge and values through engagement with a diverse range of people both inside and outside of school—experiences that spark a sense of “WOW!” in learning and discovery.
A Globally Diverse Camp Experience
During the English Camp, students took on a variety of English activities—games, discussions, cultural presentations, and more—together with eight international university students studying in the Kansai region. Through hands-on communication, students experienced not only English as a language but also the joy and difficulty of using it for real communication.
Two Days of Cross-Cultural Understanding and Challenge
Interaction with international students from diverse backgrounds offered students many fresh discoveries. Immersed in different cultures outside the usual classroom setting, students naturally deepened their understanding of diversity and developed a respectful mindset toward differences. They stayed positive and proactive throughout the program, eagerly taking on conversations in English. It was particularly impressive to see their smiles as they chatted with people they had just met for the first time.
Developing the Power to Express and Connect
This two-day program went beyond mere language learning, offering students the chance to realize their ability to express themselves and connect with the world. For the students who participated, the camp was filled with “WOW!” moments and unforgettable learning experiences.
Ritsumeikan Uji Junior High School will continue to offer exciting learning opportunities through the WOW Program, aiming to nurture each student’s curiosity and potential.
