WOW Program: Learning About Money That Pays Off I

Learning About Money That Pays Off I – Life Planning Experience

As part of the school’s career education “WOW Program,” professional life planners from Sony Life Insurance Co., Ltd. were invited to lead a session titled “Learning About Money That Pays Off I – Life Planning Experience.”

This program by Sony Life has been conducted annually since 2022 and celebrated its 10th session this year. Each year, it attracts many interested students and is known for its 100% satisfaction rate.

Experiencing Future Planning with Professional Life Planners

In this first session, students used the same simulation software as professional life planners. Each group created a “virtual family” and developed a life plan.

By inputting income, expenses, education costs, housing expenses, and more, the graphs changed dynamically. Students became highly engaged as they learned about household budgeting and future planning, taking the topic seriously and with interest.

During group discussions, students naturally brought up topics such as “investment” and “asset management,” which are scheduled for the second session. Some groups even incorporated these into their simulations. The originally scheduled 90-minute session extended to two hours due to the engaging nature of the activity.

Gratitude Toward Family and the Importance of Financial Literacy

Through the activity, students gained a new appreciation for the efforts their families make to support household finances and daily life.

They also recognized the importance of understanding money when planning for their future lives.

Topics such as finance and asset building are often not systematically covered in the standard middle and high school curricula. That’s why hands-on experiences like this spark greater interest in how society and the economy work.

Some students even expressed a desire to study economics or business management at university in the future.

This initiative goes beyond mere knowledge acquisition—it broadens students' career perspectives and acts as a bridge between classroom learning and real-world application.
