Junior High WOW: Tagalog Language Workshop

As a new series of the intercultural experience program “Junior High WOW (World of Wonder)” for junior high school students, the first session titled “Tagalog WOW” was held. Just like past WOW programs, the emphasis was placed on students actively “experiencing, feeling, and learning.”

This time, instructors originally from the Philippines conducted the session in a relay style, clearly introducing the Filipino language, culture, and lifestyle. Starting with an icebreaker, students learned simple greetings and expressions in Tagalog and also listened to stories about the instructors’ home regions. The students actively asked questions, showing their deep interest.

During the session, students were surprised to learn that the Philippines is made up of over 7,600 islands and has more than 170 distinct languages. They were able to deeply understand the strong connection between language and culture.

At the end of the class, students shared their thoughts:

  • “I want to speak more Tagalog!”
  • “I feel like visiting the Philippines now!”

With a warm and lively atmosphere, the first session came to a successful close.

“Tagalog WOW” will continue to be held regularly once a month. Please look forward to the next opportunity to explore another culture!
