APU Campus Visit Program Held
From Sunday, December 7 to Monday, December 8, our school conducted an APU Campus Visit Program as an opportunity for students to explore more concrete pathways for utilizing the internal recommendation system to Ritsumeikan University and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU). Ten high school students interested in or aspiring to enroll at APU participated in the program.
■ Day 1: Exploring Beppu City to Experience the Local Lifestyle
After arrival, the first day featured a walking tour of Beppu City guided by four current APU students who are alumni of our school. This provided a valuable opportunity for participants to experience firsthand the city where they may live in the future. The tour included discussions on dormitories, shopping streets, and public transportation, helping students form a clearer image of student life.
■ Day 2: Special Program on APU Campus for Ritsumeikan Uji Students
On the second day, the group visited the APU campus to take part in a special program designed specifically for Ritsumeikan Uji students. The program included:
- Campus tour led by GASS (student-led open campus group)
- University overview presented by APU staff
- Talk session by a fourth-year APU student and Ritsumeikan Uji graduate
- Multicultural activity organized by the student group “Speak Out”
- Lunch in the student cafeteria (featuring halal, Korean, Thai, and other international menus)
- Interaction with international students (from South Africa, Myanmar, India, and Kenya)
During the international exchange activity, participants engaged in meaningful dialogue based on questions they had prepared in advance, covering topics such as:
- Why did you choose Japan?
- What are you studying at university?
- What are your plans after graduation?
This exchange provided a valuable opportunity to broaden students’ global perspectives by learning directly from students of diverse backgrounds and values.
■ Student Reflections
By the end of the program, students were beaming with new insights and excitement. It was a vivid realization of the saying, “Seeing is believing.” Experiencing the multicultural campus and city environment first-hand gave them a more concrete vision for their future paths. Here are some of their reflections:
- “I could actually see how diverse APU is with my own eyes, and I felt again that this is a university where I can experience diversity up close.”
- “I learned the importance of visiting in person. Hearing valuable advice from alumni and seeing what can’t be conveyed through pamphlets or websites was a great opportunity. Exploring Beppu's living environment was also helpful.”
- “I was attracted to the environment where you can interact with students from all over the world. Since I believe that having chances to speak is key to language learning, I felt this would be a great environment for me.”
- “I was impressed by how confident the students were in what they are learning. It was more international than I expected, and I could feel that this is a place where many challenges and opportunities arise.”
This visit helped students gain a clearer image of APU as a potential future academic destination and provided new perspectives for their life planning. Our school will continue to offer diverse learning opportunities to support each student in making fulfilling and informed choices about their future.
