Cebuano Language and Culture Experience — Tagalog WOW Part 2!
Following the success of November’s first session, the second installment of the “Tagalog WOW” event was held — this time with a focus on the language and culture of Cebu Island.
The event was part of the school’s Global Challenge Program (GCP), which hosts annual study abroad and exchange programs in Cebu. For this session, a teacher from Cebu was invited as a guest speaker to share the island’s unique cultural richness from multiple angles.
Unlike Manila, where Tagalog is the predominant language, the people of Cebu speak “Cebuano” (also known as Visayan). Participants had the opportunity to learn about this regional language and were also introduced to Cebu’s vibrant traditional clothing.
The session also featured a live demonstration of the traditional Filipino martial art “Arnis.” Attendees were captivated by the dynamic movements performed right before their eyes. Arnis, which centers around stick-based techniques, is officially recognized as the national martial art and sport of the Philippines.
This event offered students and participants a rare and valuable opportunity to immerse themselves in the cultural world of Cebu.
