【Junior High WOW Program】India WOW Experience Held
As part of the experiential career education program WOW (Wonder of the World), our school held an event titled “India WOW.” The WOW program aims to broaden students’ perspectives through hands-on learning experiences that allow them to encounter “the real world” in ways that are difficult to experience in everyday school life.
For this session, we welcomed Ms. Emi Takeichi, who is active in India as a camel shearing artist. She spoke about Indian culture and daily life, as well as her unique profession, using photographs and videos. Students listened with great interest to stories about everyday life in India—rarely encountered in Japan—and the background behind the work of camel shearing.
Following the talk, students participated in a hands-on activity using woodblock printing, a traditional technique used in making Indian saris, to create an original 2026 calendar. Working quietly and with focus, students experimented with colors and patterns, completing their own unique designs. Holding their finished calendars, many students wore expressions filled with a sense of accomplishment, making it a memorable and rewarding experience.
This India WOW experience provided students with a valuable opportunity to directly encounter global cultures and ways of working, encouraging them to think more deeply about learning and their future paths. Through the WOW program, we will continue to foster encounters with diverse values and help students expand their possibilities for the future.
