IM Course Japanese Culture Rediscovery : Zazen Experience
All students in the high school IM course will study abroad for a year between their first and second year of high school.
This time, as part of a preparatory lesson for the first-year high school students to learn about Japanese culture before their study abroad, Mr. Ryushin Minagawa of Soto Zen's Sanshoji Temple in Nara Prefecture gave three lectures on what Zen is all about. In the final session, we actually visited the temple to experience zazen.
Zen has been attracting attention overseas, and meditation has been adopted by various educational institutions and companies. Learning about Japan's proud Zen philosophy was an interesting experience, both as knowledge to introduce to foreign countries and as a mindset to train oneself.
In fact, Mr. Minagawa is also an alumnus who graduated from our IM course in 2015. Having experienced studying abroad, Mr. Minagawa speaks about zazen from a global perspective, which must have made him a good role model for the first-year IM students.
We hope that he will make the most of this experience and grow as a role model in his study abroad program.
