IM course: Business proposals to four local entrepreneurs on a study tour to Okinawa

From August 29 to September 2, we held an IM course study tour in Okinawa. In Okinawa, we worked with four entrepreneurs to solve business issues. The four companies that cooperated with us free of charge aim to balance business with solving social issues, such as passing on the traditional culture of Shuri-ori weaving, producing apparel using bagasse (sugarcane pomace), producing apparel that does not become marine debris, and supporting artists in the prefecture. In collaboration with NPO very50, the students learned the basics for how to solve social issues before departure and used the limited time of five days on site to conduct market research while narrowing down concrete proposals for social implementation. In the final presentation, we made our proposals directly to the entrepreneurs, who expressed their desire to implement many of our ideas in their future businesses. The local newspapers "Okinawa Times" and "Ryukyu Shimpo" also covered the event.

Despite the corona situation and the effects of Typhoon No. 11, fortunately everyone was able to complete the program in good health. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the teachers and students for their support, which made it possible for us to conduct a fulfilling study tour.

In the future, we will use the mindsets and skills developed in this program to enhance the quality of each student's project. We expect that even high school students will be active in the program with the feeling that they can make a difference in society.
