Jr. High Panthers upset by Sea Gulls, finish runner-up
On January 8, 2024 (Monday), the 10th Japan Middle School American Football Championship final took place at the Fujitsu Stadium in Kawasaki. The Ritsumeikan Uji Junior High School Panthers, who had advanced through the Kansai Middle School Tournament, faced off against the Kanto representative, OVIC Seagulls Junior. At the end of the 4th quarter, the score was tied at 21-21, leading to overtime. Unfortunately, after two tiebreaks from the enemy's 15-yard line, the Ritsumeikan Uji Junior High School Panthers narrowly missed victory with a final score of 28-34.
For the graduating third-year students, who have been dedicated to football for the longest period, this marks their retirement. The parents and alumni who rushed to the stands to support the team offered applause and encouragement for the well-earned runner-up position achieved through the players' utmost efforts.
