Recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for 2018, physician Dr. Denis Mukwege, will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Ritsumeikan University.

Dr. Mukwege continues to work tirelessly in a number of important areas including: the introduction of holistic care for female victims of rape in the Democratic Republic of Congo; strengthening of regulations in order to ensure the sustainable development of the industrial mining of resources in Africa; and the improvement of working conditions for women and children employed therein.

In recognition of this, an Honorary Doctorate Award Ceremony will be held to which Dr. Mukwege has been invited, following which a Commemorative Lecture, kindly be given by Dr. Mukwege himself, and roundtable discussions will take place. This event is open to members of the public (advanced booking required – limited to 200 persons on a first-come-first served basis).
