Creating the future through “Freedom and Innovation”
Carrying on the spirit of its founder Prince Saionji Kinmochi and its first president Kojuro Nakagawa, Ritsumeikan University has continued to pioneer new eras with a free and progressive spirit ever since its establishment in 1900.
Ritsumeikan University is a comprehensive private university with 16 colleges and 21 graduate schools spread across its distinctive campuses in Kyoto, Shiga, and Osaka Prefectures. We offer our students who hail from throughout Japan and around the world a wide range of opportunities to learn from each other in an atmosphere of mutual respect, build connections with society, and tackle challenges and pursue inquiry in their own way.
Looking ahead to 2030, Ritsumeikan University aims to become a next-generation research university that creates new value and produces innovative and emergent talent. By collaborating with universities and research institutions around the world—as well as with governments, companies, and local communities—and by pursuing research and education activities that transcend disciplinary boundaries, we will contribute to the society of the future as a center of knowledge that creates value that can be shared with the world.
