In observational studies within clinical research, obtaining direct consent from each individual participant is not always required under national ethical guidelines.
However, it is necessary to notify or publicly disclose information about the study, including its purpose, and to ensure that individuals can opt out whenever possible. This approach is known as the "opt-out".
