Mermaid Japan, the Japanese national team featuring Ayano Shimada (2nd year, College of Sport and Health Science), a member of the Ritsumeikan University Swimming Team, won its sixth consecutive silver medal at the Asian Games.
Shimada has continued her strong form, having also won the women’s duet at the 102nd Japan Intercollegiate Swimming Championships Artistic Swimming Competition (Mermaid Cup), held on Sunday, August 30. Comment from Ayano Shimada (2nd year, College of Sport and Health Science, Ritsumeikan University)
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who supported me and offered their enthusiastic encouragement as I competed at the Asian Games.
At this year’s Asian Games, I was able to demonstrate the results of all the training I had put in, while also identifying issues I need to address in order to develop further. Competing alongside athletes from Japan and overseas also taught me a great deal and made this an extremely valuable experience.
I will apply what I learned from this experience to my future career as an athlete and work even harder toward my next goal. Thank you for your continued support.
