Visiting the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology in Nagoya was an enjoyable journey for Ritsumeikan students, providing an in-depth look at one of the world's most well-known brands. Toyota is famous for its automotive leadership, manufacturing philosophies such as JIT and Kanban that changed not only automobile industry, but other spheres as well. However, many visitors were surprised to find that the company originated as a textile manufacturer.

The museum provided an engaging journey through Toyota's history, from the biography of its founder, Kiichiro Toyoda, to the evolution of its manufacturing technology. Interactive exhibits showcased the progression from primitive yarn-making techniques to advanced machinery production. A highlight of the visit was experiencing the atmosphere of a real automobile factory, where students observed robot machinery performing intricate tasks like joining and welding.

Students also gained insights into how engines and vehicle parts are made, with the help of demonstrative model cars cut in half to reveal internal components. The museum’s retro collection of classic Toyota models vividly illustrated the evolution of modern automotive design, offering a fascinating glimpse into how the company’s vehicles have transformed over the decades.

A unique and memorable moment of the tour came when students themselves operated an injection molding machine to create their own car keychains.
