Profile
I studied mechanical engineering at the National Institute of Technology (KOSEN), Suzuka College and ecological engineering at a graduate school of Toyohashi University of Technology. After working for my company which I started when I was a student, I worked for the Japan Environmental Management Association for Industry. The main work was performing life cycle assessment in the industry. In 2011, I acquired a Ph.D. in engineering from the Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo. I have been in my current post since April 2018. My hobbies are outdoor activities.

To answer the question “What are environmentally friendly products?,” it is necessary to conduct life cycle assessments, ranging from the aquisition of raw materials for products to their manufacture, disposal, and recycling. For example, electric vehicles do not generate emissions while being driven, but various emissions, including CO2, are generated during the generation of electricity required for driving. It is also necessary to take into account the environmental impact when manufacturing lithium-ion batteries and motors. I have conducted assessments on various products, technologies, and social systems, including vehicles, electric home appliances, and wood products.
Recently, in addition to these case studies, I have also been developing methods for assessing social aspects (social LCA) through supply chains.
