Profile
Research /
educational interests
My main research theme is how identity on various levels is expressed in the material culture. On this theme, I am currently researching how different actors express their identity toward archaeological ruins in the vicinity on an individual, regional, or national level. I also conduct research on Japanese immigrants in Peru and Peruvian immigrants in Japan. I am interested in understanding how the cultural identity of immigrants and their offspring changes over time. These research fields significantly affect policy science, such as management of cultural heritage and local and regional development policies.
Based on such research, I aim to develop the curiosity of students to understand their own culture and other cultures by taking full advantage of their knowledge and helping them acquire new knowledge from the viewpoint of cultural anthropology, archeology, and linguistic research in particular.
